How do I know if I'm miscarrying?

How do I know if I'm miscarrying please? Is there anything specific I need to watch for? I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have bad stomach cramps. I'm a little worried. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi @blankazsanna5! It can be very hard to tell, sometimes there are no symptoms are present at all. However, the following symptoms in the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy can indicate a miscarriage:

    • Abdominal cramps
    • Abdominal pain
    • Vaginal bleeding
    • Discharge of fluid or tissue from the vagina
    • Loss of the early signs of pregnancy, eg sudden loss of nausea and breast tenderness

Please have a look at the following article for more information:

Are you experiencing bleeding as well? Bleeding and cramps are usually a strong indicator of a miscarriage.

However, symptoms aren’t the same for everyone and can occur for other reasons other than miscarriage, so if you're worried, please do check with your midwife or medical professional. If you think you might be having a miscarriage, contact your GP or 111 immediately.
