Hi my name is Emma and I am 48 years old I am married and have a son who is 21.

In April I had a total hysterectomy I have been plunged into the menopause like you wouldn’t believe. I wish I never had the op. I had breast Cancer in 2005 and asked the doctor if he could prescribe me with HRT which the response was no we can offer you anti depressants. So I start taking them but they don’t help with my insomnia and now I have lost my job and feel as I am loosing my mind. I have been back to the doctors and they offered to double my dose with the anti depressants or the sleeping pills. I honestly don’t know what I should do. Thank you

Sorry u r feeling rubbish. I am too on a journey with this menopause. I thknk u may find it helpful to contact the British menppause society. Fof s minimum donation of £10 u can get good advice from a specialist nurse. Ive done this twice now as Hrt gave me headaches and vertigo and the gps dont know enough. Ive now managed to be referred to a proper menopause clinic. Good luck worth a try.xx

Hi @Dpneln Im sorry to hear you have been going through all of this. What antidepressants did the GP put you on? It may be that that particular medication doesn't work for you. Has the GP tried giving you a different one to see if that makes a difference.

Have you tried any herbal remedies? Any health shop would be able to advise you on which ones to take. Sage is good for flushes and magnesium for sleep. Menopace for general menopause symptoms but always ask the advice of a professional first before taking anything due to previously having cancer.

    Good luck X
