Lichen Sclerosis & Menopause

I am 51 years young and was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis 20 years ago. I use Dermovate ointment a couple of times a week to keep it at bay. Recently I have had a massive flare up all around both regions front and back and it’s so painful and very frustrating. Dermovate isn’t working on it so I tried a few days applying Sudocrem and then a few days applying Diprobase but it won’t heal. I’ve also tried a thin layer of Hydrocortisone over the last couple of days but that it isn’t working either. I am not sexually active and haven’t been for a very long time. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, 😊 x

    Dear @minxy999

I am very sorry that you are experiencing these symptoms again.

Normally, when relapses of Lichen occur, the Dermovate will be very effective in keeping this in check.

Because you are feeling unwell despite the correct treatment, I would therefore want to first of all rule out allergic/irritative reactions, so please avoid all local irritants (laundry softeners/additives, lubricants, pantyliners, intimate wash). Most importantly, switch to Simple Pure Sensitive soap bar instead of the intimate wash, as this soap bar is extremely delicate and will not leave any residue that can often cause irritation.

In order to promote healing of the area please reduce the intake of sugars and possibly take specific oral probiotics for the genital area, such as Optibac For Those on Antibiotics, one capsule before breakfast for the next 20 days.

Please let me know how you will be doing in a few days.

    Kind regards,

    Giada Frontino
