Is this normal . I haven’t stopped my periods yet . My this last 6 weeks I’ve had 3 bleeds. I am 53 and I’m progesterone for 12 nights and gel in the mornings
Irregular periods are common during the menopause, however I'm no expert myself and therefore cannot give you advice on this. Diane, our menopause nurse I'm sure will get back to you as soon as possible.
@DianePorterfield-Bourne, can you shed some light on this?
In the meantime, we do have an article about bleeding during the menopause that you might find useful to look at:
Hi @Midgley20 how long do the periods last? Although irregular bleeding is very common, excessive bleeding can become very tiresome and cause anaemia, it can also be a sign of fibroids which are also very common. Have you been offered anything alongside the progesterone such as oestrogel? You could be bleeding because your oestrogen levels are low.
Ask your GP for a blood test if you can. This will determine levels and then you may be able to be given another hormone replacement to help with this x
thank you for your advice .. thenbleed last about 7-10 days .. it’s driving me mad !! I have had an internal scan no fibroids of problems with ovaries .. Seeing a dr has no become An impossible task !!
Thank you @Blanka_C and @Julie20
You have been offered some excellent advice.
Over the last 6 weeks you have been having frequent periods, is this right? What are your normal cycles like? Are they heavier than normal? or just more frequent? Periods do become irregular in the peri-menopausal stage and its not fun at all.
You aren't too old to still be menstruating... I know ladies in their mid-late 50's still having periods.
However you must discuss any worries with your GP, they can always talk to you over the phone. I know its a difficult time but they should be your first point of call.
Please let us know how it goes.
Obviously if bleeding get heavier and or you can't see a GP please call 111.
Diane Porterfield Bourne.
Thank you diane so much for answering my question .. my periods are heavy for a few day but just drag in for sometimes 10 days .. before this episode I was getting one bleed a month .. I think I’ve also been erratic with my progesterone, as in sometimes forgetting a few nights.
It seems you have identified the probable cause of your heavy bleeding.
If it doesn't improve, you are concerned please discuss this with your GP or 111.
I hope it settles down for you.
I stared bleeding at the end of November last year. The bleeds were varied from light to heavy with horrible clots. I had oestrogen breast cancer last year so I’m not able to take HRT. My GP sent me for scans and they show nothing apart from the lining of my womb was thick for my age (50 Last November) I had 7 days without bleeding.
6 weeks ago I had a coil fitted at the women’s clinic at our local hospital. I have to say it’s helped a lot. I’m still bleeding every two weeks but it’s not as heavy. In between I still need to wear a towel, but the flow has been much lighter. Seem to be getting a lot of menopause symptoms all at one too.
Go see your GP. It’s a scary time to be going to the doctors or hospital but I’m glad I went.
I have found an article that maybe a resource for you to review. I have not suffered this type of bleeding before but I have some friends who have and I can't imagine how hard this is for you but I hope this article will help you out.
You may also reach out to our nurse expert for more suggestions.
Thank you @MonicaM a very informative article.
I am pleased you saw your GP and you have the coil. I assume it is the Mirena ( progesterone) one? It has helped control the flow, compared to before...fingers crossed over the next few months this will improve more.
If it doesn't get lighter or indeed gets heavier do go back to see your GP.
