Why can't I get rid of this cough

I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma lung cancer Stage 4 in July 2019. Surgery was not an option and chemo/radiotherapy would not be given because of the diversity of the cancers. Since then I have had 2 CT scans, the last one being in June. Both scans show no change but my body says different. I have had a bad cough for 18 months, which comes and goes and whiich the oncologists say does not relate to my lung cancer! I also contracted Urticaria and have been fighting that virus with anti-histamines for 7 months now. Have you any suggestions to this state of affairs or do I just have to ride this out to the end?

    Hello,

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis and also how you have been suffering with these symptoms and yet not being able to find any relief or help for them.

I am not able to advise you, or provide you with any knowledgeable answer.

I can only suggest contacting the oncologist or doctor to see if further investigations can be done to locate the source of it. I would have hoped the doctors could say something about the uticaria. Perhaps some different medication may help that?

I understand seeing doctors in the current climate may be difficult, but even a telephone consultation would be better than none. I would persist in contacting them until you are successful in speaking to someone.

Maybe someone else on here will have some insight for you, hopefully they will get in touch.

Thank you for getting in touch Lou. I believe I did mention that I have been on anti-histamines (different ones and different strengths), over the last 7 months to no avail. I have talked to my GP and Oncologist a few months ago and they still insisted that the cough is not a symptom of the lung cancer so what does one do in these cases.

    Hello again,

Yes you did mention about the different meds you have tried over many months.

I really do not know what to suggest, I have tagged Liz in this post, She is an Oncology Specialist nurse, and may have some knowledge or insight to share with you.

I am sorry to not be able to provide you with better information, it must be very frustrating for you.

    Hi @peakays_1944

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Can I just ask what medication you are taking at the moment?

I can then see if I can offer any help

    best wishes

    Hi Liz

I have been taking anti-histamine tablets, for 7 months now. I also take paracetamol at night.

I have had a cough, sometimes badly, other times irritatingly, for nearly 2 years now,

    Pauline
