I have bowel cancer that twisted around my bowel. After copious treatment, things quieted down. Now the tumour is active again, but rectal discharge has gone from once every few weeks, to 6-7 a day. Very unpredictable, and uncomfortable.
Good morning to you, you are very welcome here, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis.
I know there are many others here who have been diagnosed with bowel cancer too, I am hoping they will respond as they may have far more insight than I, as this is not something I have any knowledge of ( I was diagnosed with breast cancer).
@jacksprat_x1 , @4Gretton , @Oconnorm , @achybreaky71 , @Brightstar , I hope you don't mind me tagging you in this discussion, I thought perhaps you may have some helpful advice for @Ashman87 .
I hope you are all doing ok, especially in the times we are living in now.
Im sorry to hear of your diagnosis. It’s a tough one isn’t it and not a very glamorous one to be suffering from! I never thought my bowels would be talked about so much and never realised how disfunctioning ones could be so painful and how much would affect my day to day living. I won’t go in to all the details of my case as mine slightly different to yours. My tumour was in my sigmoid colon (rather than wrapped around) but at the end of the day I guess a similar affect is that it caused a blockage. My colon was already playing up and sluggish after laparoscopic surgery for ruptured appendix and emergency laparoscopic surgery a week later due to sepsis. (About 8 mths prior to colon and then liver surgery). I struggled so much after the colon surgery-so constipated but then also breakthrough accidents which made me scared to go out. I think that if you have leakage, you may, as I was, be very constipated. If so, this definitely needs to be addressed. Every body is different , but for me, I need to take a sachet of Laxido in the morning and one at bedtime along with 2senna tablets. I know this seems strange if you have leakage and certainly speak to your doctor or nurse before trying any of this to address this problem. My 4major abdominal surgeries have left me with IBS(is this possibly a problem for you too) and Buscopan helps alleviate this a little. I am on morphine which possibly doesn’t help with my slow bowel and am slowly trying to reduce dose. It took a while for me to get good help with this, I’d spoken to my specialist, specialist nurse and GP before a wonderful specialist nurse at local hospice helped me get a bit more control over all this. So keep pestering for help. It’s important that you be as comfortable as possible . I’m sorry this is a bit long winded. You are not Ali e in this. Let us know how you are getting along. Very best wishes and elbow bumps to you and all our supportive community xxx
Sorry @Ashman87 ....
in the above... that should have read... you are not alone in this..
I would blame predictive but I’m also a rubbish typer!!!
Thank you so much for responding to @Ashman87 post, some of these things people experience with cancer are so hard to talk about sometimes out of embarrassment. But as we know cancer doesn't pay any heed to our embarrassments and causes so much discomfort and upset. Hearing your experience may I hope be reassuring that we are not alone in our cancer journey's there is usually someone else who has gone through similar.
I hope you are keeping well, and managing ok during the lockdown. It is lovely to hear from you,
Have a good evening,
I am so sorry that you are experiencing this very debilitating symptom.
Are you having any cancer treatment at the present time?
I last had chemo in November, scan showed cancer was inactive, but a scan in March showed it was active again. Last year saw four rounds of chemo, 25 days of radiotherapy then was schedule to have ot all removed, however it had moved into walls and inoperable areas, so surgery cancelled 4 days prior and new chemo started, four round hair lost. Dormant, now active.
No progress since a conversation a month ago, no ide of what treatment if any Is forthcoming. Next conversation on 1st June.
So, in answer to your question. No treatment st present, thanks to covid.
