What made you smile this week?😊

Hi All,

I thought I would start this discussion to take our minds off things for a moment this week.

Put anything you like on here. One word or an essay!

I will start you off!

My friend Joan said she hadn’t been sleeping very well. I asked her why and she replied

β€œWillow, (the rescue cat) has been sitting on my chest, in the early hours, stroking my face and then miaows just wanting a chat. She doesn’t want to go out, just chat!”

That made me giggle. The answer to that is simple, put her in the kitchen and shut the door!

Or is that just me? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜†

(she sent the video to me so guess it continues!)

Have a good day All.

Ashman that’s lovely! My grandchildren mean the world to me and I’m sure you feel the same about your little Grandaughter. Very thoughtful of your Daughter In Law.

    @jacksprat_x1 , @Brightstar , @Ashman87 ,

Hi Jackie, I love this thread, what a brilliant idea this is! πŸ˜„

Haha, I can imagine Willow, especially as this happens to me with Charlie or Lola if we have left the door open for them to roam. Haha!

Ashman, how lovely for you to be able to see your granddaughter in her play centre setting.

Julie, what a lovely compliment to give you, and at just the right time too! Must have been an angel sent to encourage you 😊.

One thing that has made me smile this week is yesterday I discovered one of our members who has recently joined the community lives only a few mile from me! Another one! How cool is that! It really is a small world when you think about it. It will be great to meet for coffee when the time is right.

    @Brightstar @Sunshinedaff

Hi that is lovely Julie, how great to know what it is like to be β€œpapped”! πŸ˜‚She only took the back! Is that her behind you? Who was taking a picture of you at the front? πŸ˜†

    Hi Lou,

    Thanks for that.

I thought of you and Charlie and Lola when my friend told me about it! πŸ˜‚

How lovely that you have found another friend from here in your area. I bet that did make you smile! Will be great to meet up for a cuppa and a chat! β˜•οΈ

I had a call from specialist nurse today. My polyp was not you know what and there is no sign in there. Scan next Friday is to check all ok. One down, one to go, now that makes me smile!

    Have a lovely evening all!

Hi Jackie great news about your polyp. That's the best news to make anyone smile. Hopefully you will be smiling even more after your scan. I will definitely be thinking of you at 7.00.pm next Friday. I am first down in theatre that day, so I will have come round from my op well before then. I think you go down about 9.00. At least I don't have to wait around. I think I will probably be quite emotional though, knowing when I wake up I will only have one breast. On the positive side I will probably be a stone lighter! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

I was given my drain bag and my comfy prosthetic on Monday, ready for after my op. I did tell the nurse I would have preferred chocolates! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Hi Rob. I love your new profile picture. The jacket really suits you.

Had a lovely lunch Lou. You should try Miller&Carter. Really lovely inside and their lunch menu is very reasonable. I had the sea bass in a prosecco sauce. πŸ˜‹ But their steaks are amazing as well. My friend treated me today, so it was even better. In fact I should go into hospital more often, as all my friends have been treating me! πŸ˜‚ Every cloud.... 🀣

Just going to have a nice cuppa with a piece of malt loaf. I do like a slice of that now and again, but it does have to be buttered. Naughty, but I didn't have a sweet at lunch today, so it's allowed in my books! 😊

Hope you all have a lovely evening.

Hugs to each of you. πŸ€— πŸ€— πŸ€— Julie 😘

    Hello lovely friends,

What a glorious Friday afternoon, sending this from Bournemouth beach, we took a quick drive down to see the sun set, weird having black sky behind us, blue sky in front, hut we beat the rain.lol My two never grow up, still having a race against the tide washing over their feet!! This makes me smile 😊

Jackie, fabulous news to hear your appointment was ok. Another tick!

Julie it is lovely to get parcels isn't it. Enjoy! Your lunch sounded delicious, must say I am very partial to malt loaf with lashings of butter myself! Hahaha.

    Have a lovely evening,

    Lou xx

  • BrightstarBrightstar Posts: 259 ✭✭✭

    Hi Lou and everyone else!

What a beautiful picture. I hardly ever go to the beach. I guess I just take it for granted. I am going to make the effort and take a walk down there tomorrow, weather permitting!

I was just having a piece of malt bread as I was reading your message! πŸ˜‚

I am very good though, I just put a very thin layer of butter on. I was drinking a very large glass of red wine though! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ It was only because I had some left over from in the week. Its very rare for me not to finish a bottle off! πŸ˜‚ So thought, waste not want not!

It did not really go with the meal I had. I had Ray, which is not a fish I have tried before and I certainly don't recommend it. Yuk, yuk, yuk. The bones in it are huge and very sinewy, and the taste is just weird! I will stick to what I know in future. I needed the wine to take the horrible taste away. Well that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Normally it would be a nice sparkling white with fish, as I don't like a still white wine. Champagne every time if I could! Now that always makes me smile! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Perhaps we should have a link of things that make you grimace! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

    Chat again soon.

    Love and hugs Julie x

    Good evening dear friends.

Hi Julie, lovely to hear you are still upbeat and making us smile. I will be thinking of you next Friday for sure. πŸ€—πŸ€— Haha, I am known as the Green Un when I am wearing that jacket. I was wearing it whilst watching Manchester United at Old Trafford a year ago. A man offered me Β£150 for it but that was not very tempting on a cold rainy February day in Manchester.

Hi Lou. Lovely photo and great to hear that the girls still love doing the things they used to do when they were small. Mary tells me that I still do childish things. Not sure it was a compliment though.πŸ€” So jealous that you are able to meet another member. I was offered a job with a bank in Christchurch back in β€˜78. They thought that as a Jersey resident, I would be used to dealing with rich people. πŸ’° πŸ’΅

I was walking down the street the other day and a woman asked me for my autograph. Puzzled, I asked her why. 'Well, you are Charlie Hungerford (Bergerac).' No way, I said, he died ten years ago. 'You can't fool me' she said, 'I know you. I've seen you on TV.' She got quite angry and refused to believe me. When I got home and googled him I realised that if he was still alive, he would be 96 now. πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ¦³Haha, I've obviously had a hard life.🧁🍻

    Love to you all

    Hi Julie,

Thank you I was so pleased! I had a chunky letter from the Hospital that morning. I thought O my goodness is this the results and paperwork for a hospital admittanceπŸ˜‚ It was just a patient questionnaire! Phew!

I will be thinking of you when I wake up next Friday. That must be a bit of a reality check when they give you your drain and prosthetic. 😳But I’m sure you are wanting to get on with your op now and it is so good that you got your appointment through earlier than you feared.

Glad your friend treated you to a nice lunch. You deserve it and you certainly deserve buttered malt loaf and wine. Sounds like you also deserve NOT to have that fish! 😳😫 Mind you I’m not a good judge as I cannot bear seafood. Sending you a big gentle hug and I will look forward to hearing from you when you are feeling up to it. All the very best Julie take care. Well done on winning the Xmas prize. 🎁 Hugs Jackie xxxx πŸ₯°πŸ˜

    Hi Lou,

Thank you it was sooo nice to hear! Just my scan and I can get on with things.

Wow those pictures look gorgeous. What a lovely thing to do! Must have been lovely seeing the girls enjoying the waves! Precious memories! I hope you are feeling well? We will have to take Julie up on her idea of things that make you grimace haha. Keep it clean! πŸ˜‚

    Hi Rob,

Your message came in just before mine! Thank you Rob I feel so lucky to get that news.

I remember being asked by my Dad to pick up The Green Un! I agree you can’t put a price on a nice warm jacket on a cold day! My daughter in law asked me if I would go halves on a Retro Vintage style parka for my son’s birthday. He really wanted it! I of course agreed you know Mums and Sons πŸ˜† He went out in it the following weekend to see a band, put it on the peg and of course at the end of the evening it had gone!😳 So hold on to your coat Rob!

You should have signed her autograph book Rob! πŸ˜†

    Will catch up soon.

Hi Rob I had to Google that actor, as I had never heard of him. Once I saw his picture, I knew who he was.

As he was a silver fox like yourself, I can understand where the resemblance lies! 😊

Glad to know your a united fan as well. Coming from that area, I had to be one or the other. Although my husband supports United as well and he is from Luton.

Beautiful day here in Bournemouth again. Off to blow the cobwebs off me, and make the most of the nice bright day.

Hope you are both well and enjoying the sun.

I had my surgery last week and am feeling surprisingly well - no painkillers needed as only a little sore. Had all lymph nodes removed but don't know what has been done to my breast as it is still exactly the same size and shape as the other one.

The week before surgery they had not been able to even see the tumor on the scan and the oncologist couldn't believe that two chemos had worked so well.

I get results on Wednesday so will find out what I've had done.

Sadly we lost our two cats last year so just before Christmas we rehomed a 3 year old Maine Coon.

He is almost as handsome as you Robert.

    Hi Dear Friends,

It’s so nice to see all those lovely chats to cheer up the winter months.

Hi Peter, nice to hear from you again. Very glad that your bloods are allowing a good bit of sunshine in Lanzarote. Hope you have a great time. That’s surely going to make you smile. Take care.

    Hi Ali 61,

Your postie made me smile, That was such a lovely thing to do! Isn’t it nice when people just have to make a nice comment, like Julie’s hair lady compliment! How the nice the world could be if they all behaved like that. I love your gorgeous cat Chester. My best friend has Maine Coons. They are incredible cats. Almost like a cross between a cat and a dog, hers liked to play with water in the bathroom when she was brushing her teeth, and the kitchen sink and garden pond! Fetch balls and constantly talk to her. Sadly she only has one left but if I were to get another cat I would love one, mind they do cost a lot of money. She took them to the vet once and a fairly eccentric but lovely lady vet called out to everyone β€œcan I have the posh pussies please’ haha that makes me smile when I think of that! 😻Have a lovely weekend.

    Hi KitKat,

I was so pleased to hear that you are not suffering a lot of pain from your operation and that your consultants were pleased that your two chemos did a good job. Hope they have more good news when you have your checkup.

Meanwhile you have the most adorable cat to keep you company whilst you recover. Is he a house cat? My friend had her garden cat proofed so her cat couldn’t get out snd others couldn’t get in. That was ten years ago now and it worked well. Looked a little like Alcatraz at first but the greenery has grown around it and you don’t notice now. Hope you have a good weekend.

    Hi Lou,

Hope you all ok. Have a good weekend. I may venture out today to shake the cobwebs away. Three week cold virus is no fun but there has bern plenty to smile about here. Take care dear friend 😻

Love to you All Jackie xx πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

    Hi Everyone,

Wow, look at all these chats, brilliant, Jackie, you are right so good to read, and keep in touch with everyone like this.

@ali61 , Chester is adorable! What a lovely thing to do of the delivery driver, to leave a note like that. Such a simple gesture, but made a difference, I love hearing about incidences like this. Welcome to the community by the way, great to have you here, even though the reason is pants, we won't let cancer stop us!

@KitKat , Hi Catherine, it is so lovely to hear from you. I am so glad the surgery is over and you are coping post-op without much pain. Great news to hear the chemo rounds you had managed to do have been so effective. That is really encouraging. I hope you continue to get stronger, and recovery gets easier and easier. It won't be long until you can visit Splash, give him a hug. He will be so pleased to see you I know.

What is the name of your new bundle of fluff? Gorgeous!

@peter63 Hi Peter, Have a wonderful holiday in the warm winter sun, I think warm sunshine is always good for the body and soul, really lifts the spirits. Very good news re your blood results. Relax and enjoy the break.

Hi Julie, Glad you have made it out too today, the others are out now, in Ringwood, yesterday we were at Durley Chine, easy parking, not free though! I don;t know when they changed that, it used to be free between September and May, not any more! lol. Still only 1.50. Hope you are having a good afternoon, I am sorry to hear your meal wasn't up to scratch. I was just thinking how the days have flown since you got your op date through, it will be over and done before you have had time to blink.😊

Jackie, I am so sorry you are still being plagued by this cold, Mark has them like that, they just don;t want to let go it seems for ages. I hope you made it out and were able to enjoy this lovely day. I don't know why I am shocked hearing your son's coat missing after going out, that is very disappointing. What is it with people? Unless it was a genuine error. Shame. This time next week, scan done, tick! Another lovely thing happened yesterday. I was out with Hannah, we were talking about things, I mentioned I had sent a Christmas card to a friend and written family news inside. This friend used to write to Hannah while she was at uni, to encourage her etc. Anyway Hannah says that she would like to send her a letter etc, great idea! We get home, and lo, on the answer phone a message from her! Amazing! I haven't spoken to her since last March. So on Wednesday we are meeting her for coffee! It was a great moment, especially for Hannah!

    Hi Rob,

Hahahaha, do you know I can see why that lady made that mistake! So funny, as Jackie said, you should have signed an autograph! Lol, when I first read Bergerac, I thought you were going to say John Nettles! I used to love that programme, blast from the past! I hope you and Mary are having a good weekend and have the same lovely weather we are having today.

May you all have a peaceful evening,

    Chat soon,

    Lou xx

    Good afternoon lovely friends.

Wow, you have all been busy. I attended a six week 'Hope' course in the Autumn and we all got together for a pizza, chat and some laughter last night. There were 8 of us, 6 women and 2 men - a good balance.πŸ˜‰

I just can't believe how many wonderful friends I have made through being diagnosed with cancer. Just amazing and very special for me. πŸ€— Thank you all.

Hi Peter. Guess you are in Lanzarote by now Enjoy some well earned relaxation and sunshine.

Hi Ali. Chester looks pretty relaxed and what a great message from the postman. I used to work at Jersey Post and we set up a scheme whereby the postman can pop in and have a chat with elderly people who live alone. It has proved very popular. My heart missed a beat when I saw Blossom. She looks so like the little black poodle my Mum had. Gorgeous.

Hi Catherine. Fantastic to hear how well you are getting on post surgery. It all sounds good so far and I trust that your results will go well on Wednesday. Your Maine Coon looks very regal and very much at home and I hope that he gives you as much pleasure as the ones you sadly lost. The weather here has been much better lately and I wonder if you have had a chance to visit Splash too?

Hi Julie. I hope you enjoyed the lovely day we have had. We have been out walking again today though we spoilt it all with chocs and Christmas cake.πŸŽ‚ I didn't know you are a Manchester girl. I have to admit that I am not really a Man U fan but Mary is and we will be living just four metro stops from the ground when we move to Cheshire. Two of Mary's brothers are actually Man City fans and I go with them sometimes too. My own team is Middlesbrough which is just a two hour train journey across the Pennines. Mary likes going there because there is a fabulous French restaurant next door to the Premier Inn where we stay when we go over. I have an appointment with a specialist on Friday and I will be thinking of you then. πŸ€—

Hi Lou. John Nettles and the Bergerac team were in Jersey for an anniversary last month. A neighbour had a bit part as a villain and he was invited. Anything less like a villain I have not seen. Another friend used to be a milkman and he often came across a scene shooting whilst on his rounds at 5am. I used to wonder how they shot the scenes on empty roads. It will be lovely for you and Hannah to meet that lady on Wednesday. Enjoy.

Hi Jackie. I hope that you have finally shaken off your cold. Hopefully, the lovely weather we are having will help. Oh dear, what a shame about the coat. You are right about Mums and sons though. I was spoilt by my Mum and also my three sisters when I was a boy. I am learning to play and sing more Beth Hart songs. Luckily for me, she seems to sing mostly in G and that suits me well so I don't have to try to transpose her music. I rather like the slower ones and many of the lyrics make me feel quite emotional, especially knowing they often reflect her own experiences. I am driving Mary mad though. She prefers Rod and I can't say I blame her.

    Love to you all

The weather was gorgeous yesterday and Mary and I took a bus along the coast road to Gorey which is the site of the famous mont Orgeuil Castle from which there are breathtaking views of the Normandy coast just 14 miles away.

We walked along to a little sandwich bar from where I took this photo.

    Hi Rob,

What a gorgeous photo! The water looks so blue! I will send you a photo of the North Sea soon, what a contrast! I still love our coast tho! I always think of you when I see a map and spot Jersey on it!

I know I say that about my son, but I do treat my daughter and four grandchildren the same! When wrapping up Xmas presents I made sure they had equal amounts, Norm said don’t worry the little one’s wont know, but I do! πŸ˜† I bet it was lovely to have been mothered too by your sisters.

How lovely to have kept up with the people on your Hope course and go out for a meal together. I also went but due to illness missed the last two due to a heavy cold. Seems like a theme here!!! It’s not so long ago since the last one!

I wish I had taken their numbers down now they were a nice crowd.

Our colds have been dreadful over 3 weeks now! We were going out for a meal with friends on Saturday but had to postpone it. Wouldn’t wish this on anyone!

Do you have a date for your move to Cheshire yet Rob? It would be lovely if we could all arrange a meet-up when you do. Glad to know you enjoy Beth Hart as we do. I do like her rocky numbers but love her more soulful reflective numbers. Particularly the one she wrote for her Mum. I have felt like singing that for my dear Mum but I doubt I would get through it without dissolving!

I sat in the kitchen with Norm at the table the other week singing songs from Joni Mitchell's Blue album and there were two songs that I just blubbed through! Haha. Think I’m more affected by these nowadays! Norm said it was a magical half hour bless him! I heard him tell our friends about it! ❀️

I Hope you and Mary have a good week and I’m sending positive thoughts for your appointment on Friday. I wish you well Rob.

    Take Care

Hi Rob. Yes I agree with Jackie, such a beautiful picture.

You are really going to miss Jersey when you move to Cheshire. I know where I would rather live! But it will be nice for Mary to be near her family.

I left Manchester when I was 17. I lived in Cornwall for a number of years and then lived in the Peak District for a while, before going back to Cornwall. I must admit that is where my heart still lies. There is something about Cornwall that just captures your heart.

Hope your appointment on Friday goes well. I will be thinking of you as well as Jackie.

Hi Jackie, hope you feel better soon. There are a lot of bugs around at the moment. I know some of my friends were really ill over Christmas.

I got emotional over a song this morning. I was listening to Cat Stevens and one of his songs just got to me. Mind you I am quite emotional at the moment anyway. I think even twinkle twinkle little star would set me off! πŸ˜‚

Hi Lou. How lovely to be meeting up with another member of our lovely community. I shall think of you all on Wednesday.

I am meeting up with my friend from London. We are going to have lunch in town for a change.

Had lunch at Cafe Rouge today with another friend. Meeting one more friend just for a coffee on Thursday and that's all my socialising done now until I have recovered from my op.

Yet another lovely day today. It makes me smile just seeing a nice dry, bright day.

    Love to you all.

    Good afternoon friends!😁

Rob, that is a stunning photo, you really do live in a beautiful place! I hope when you move back here, you are able to live or be very near to the countryside/sea. I think you and Mary are going to feel very homesick otherwise. I agree with Jackie, as you know, we are definitely going to be meeting up. That is a certainty!😊

It is only Monday yet I feel like it is Friday, it feels like we have lived a week already!

It has been such a beautiful day again, even the sun seemed to have a little more warmth, well for a little while anyway.

This made me smile today... the plumber came and fitted a new toilet and shower!! We have been down to one loo and no shower for about two months! With two daughters in the house, you might imagine how that has been. Haha! Hopefully now, we will have no more leaks and overflowing into the greenhouse, and a toilet that actually works! The amount of stuff that had to be moved though...all piled up in the bedrooms! Just from one bathroom and airing cupboard.

Hope lunch was good today Julie, I haven't tried Cafe Rouge, must do one day. I agree, Cornwall is beautiful, I love going there, and you can't beat a proper Cornish Pasty. There is one particular shop that sells them by post, we visited one year. Sometimes we have ordered them for a special occasion. Really delicious. πŸ˜‹

Music is such a powerful medium, amazing that we can be so moved by lyrics or a melody, either taking us back to past memories, or the music evoking strong emotions. I was listening to a song from the new Prince of Egypt musical the other day. I was instantly transported back many years to when I first heard it, remembering exactly where I was and what I was doing.

Have a peaceful evening everyone, chat later,

    Lou xx
