Christmas plans this year - share yours!

Wow Lou that cake looks amazing. I am really impressed. John was drooling when I showed him the picture. He loves that type of cake. I don't really like fruit cake, but birthday cake is a different matter 🍰😋😋I will let you know when my birthday is coming up! 🤣

My favourite Christmas songs are Happy Christmas (war is over) and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. But to be honest I love all Christmas songs.

I adore Christmas carols as well, but they do make me weepy for some reason, especially Silent Night and Away In A Manger.

As much as I love Christmas, it is also a sad time as well. I think of all the family and loved ones that are no longer here and usually end up shedding a tear, somewhere along the line on Christmas day.

We must not forget that Christmas is a very lonely time for a lot of people. Especially the very elderly who often have no one at all.

Can't wait to see pictures of all the other baking you have done Lou. You should get a market stall, you would make a fortune if they taste as good as they look. Which I am sure they do! If you ever want someone to sample your goods then please let me know 😂😂

    Love to everyone J xx

    Hi All,

O Wow Lou that is what you call a real Xmas Cake! One of the only things I have to avoid following my op is nuts! I did love them! It’s making my mouth water!

Wouldn’t it be lovely to meet up? who knows maybe we could.

I got a call to have my colonoscopy today that couldn’t be completed last year! Its Monday 23/12/19 8am. Good timing I’m going for a Xmas meal Sat night! Must eat bland food as I have to drink loads of laxative prep on Sunday! Never mind at least they haven’t forgotten me!

I always think that’s it now, its Christmas as soon as I hear White Christmas by Bing Crosby! That and Holy Night!

Hope you all having a twinkly evening!

    Love Jackie 🙋‍♀️ Xx

    Good evening lovely friends

Hey J @Brightstar, it would be lovely to meet up in Southampton and then take in a show. In fact, it would be lovely for all of us to meet up and I am sure we can do it if we get organised. Perhaps we can arrange an annual event through LBWC and have a great party 🥳

@jacksprat_x1 . Hi Jackie. Oh no! A colonoscopy a couple of days after a Christmas meal! That is not great timing. I was told not to eat anything at all the day before my colonoscopy but I sure made up for it afterwards. 🤣🍷.

Would love to see you and your family in Jersey Lou @Sunshinedaff . We have plenty of room if you would like to stay with us and we can show you round our lovely island.

We went way out West, all of nine miles from our home on the outskirts of St Helier this morning and had breakfast in a diner overlooking the ocean. The beach is five miles long and it is 3000 miles across the Atlantic to the USA. That means they often get huge waves and surfing is very popular. I took the attached photo this morning from just outside the restaurant.

Oh wow what a view. I love going to eat at places with lovely views. I would want you eat there all the time! Not sure my waistline could take it though! 😱

    @RobertA @Brightstar and everyone! 😄

    Good morning!

Up early to continue cake decorating, might have some pics soon! Lol! The one thing I haven't done is eat any yet!!! That needs to change! I decorated one of the chocolate fruit cakes yesterday, the aroma is gorgeous, spices and Tia Maria..yum! The rest of the afternoon while the others were out I played around with icing, figuring out what I wanted to do on the other cakes. Worked out how to make poinsettias..yay! To save my feet I set myself up at the dining table, much better!

Thankfully Rob, Charlie and Lola no longer climb the tree, we managed to train them out of it! Still love the baubles though.

Stayed up late to get some wrapping done when everyone else was in bed. The trouble with kids growing up is you can't put them to bed early! Lol! Mind you the other day I was wrapping presents in plain sight!! Hahaha 😂😂. Didn't see a thing!

I'm not a shiraz drinker, I had a bad experience 25 yrs ago! We were invited to friends, we thought it was a meal, turns out it wasn't, just drinks ( they must have eaten very early! ), served shiraz only, I only had couple of glasses, but it made me feel so ill. I think if there had been a few snacks or something it would have been different! Lol! 😄 Haven't been able to drink it since!

Loved your photo Rob, beautiful! I can almost see America!!

Hope you have a great day, chat soon.

    @RobertA @Sunshinedaff

Phew.. Lou I was worn out just reading what you have been doing! 😂

The Tia Maria cake sounds devine. That is my favourite spirit. I love it just with ice. I get really cross if I go for a drink and they don't have it. Kuhula is just not the same. It's amazing how many pubs don't have it though in Bournemouth.

I can understand why you were so ill just drinking Shiraz, especially if it was on an empty stomach. They could have at least served nibbles, how odd! They would have been crossed right off my list! 😂

Feeling very on edge at the moment, as I am waiting for an appointment to come through from the hospital. I was hoping it came yesterday. I just hope that when it does arrive, it says my appointment is in January. This is just to see another Consultant and hopefully get a sooner date for my operation.

My friend was saying her friends husband has throat cancer and should have been operated on next week. Its now been postponed until April next year. Its really shocking, and quite frightening. I think the NHS is at its worst its ever been. Let's hope Boris will do what he has promised for the NHS.

Peace and love to you all.

    Love J xx

    Good evening everyone!

    Here I am again! 😄.

First few cakes done pics below.

Ready in boxes to give as gifts.

We had some of the chocolate fruit cake earlier, tasted gorgeous! 😋😋.

  • BrightstarBrightstar Posts: 259 ✭✭✭

You are so talented Lou. They all look very yummy 😋 and perfectly decorated.

I must admit I have never iced a cake in my life. Mind you John adores fruit cake so they would not last long enough to be iced.😂

What a wonderful present to receive, knowing how much time and love you put into those cakes. There are going to be some very lucky people out there. 😊

Hope you are putting your feet up now and being spoilt.

    Have a lovely evening. 😘

    Hi J,

Thank you so much! Still doing more, now I am in a rhythm. Beef casserole still cooking, so I have some time. It is a relief to get some done to be honest. Haven't started ours yet though! Two more gift ones to do tonight then that will be it for today.

I hope you get some news soon about your appointment, I know you are finding it all very stressful.

    Looking forward to Thursday!

Thanks Lou. My heart will be in my mouth when I do get the letter!

Yes, looking forward to seeing you and Hanah too on Thursday.

If we meet just inside Marks on the ground floor, just incase the weather is bad. John is going to drop me off.

    Happy baking!

    Good morning dear friends

Chocolate fruit cake!!! Oh Lou, I have made a note that one of the 1000 things I need to do before I die is to pop round to yours and have a slice -or two. Do you ever stop for a rest? You are incredible 💝

Hi Jackie. Oh yes, I am sure that we will all meet up. When Mary and I get to England, getting that sorted will be top of my 'to do' list even if I have to hire a bus to sort it out.

Love your pic J. Am I allowed to say that? Of course, you are anxious about your appointment but I am pleased you found us and you know that we are all here for you.

Wow, Lou and J. You are getting together on Thursday - how great is that? Go easy on the celebrations.😉

@Sunshinedaff @RobertA and everyone in this wonderful conversation.

Merry Christmas everyone. So sorry not to have joined in more over the last month.with working 5 to 6 days a week, moving homes, Christmas was popped onto the back burner. Speaking of burning, it feels like all of australia is on fire. with 40 plus degree heat , smoke haze thicker than fog and just yukky everything, it is hard to get motivated.

However we are used to it as it happens every year. However this year because of the drought it is a million times worse. 😢

It was lovely to see lou that you caught up with j for coffee. How i wish i lived closer💖

We sold our house Rob, sounds like you have interested buyers as well. I hope so as it is a huge relief when it happens and you can move onto the next chapter of life.

I have my tree up now and lots of presents under it. It is a LED tree with minimalistic decorations 🤣🤣🤣

I was diagnosed a few years ago in late october, operated on and into treatment by december so at Christmas i was totally exhausted. It took me 3 days to decorate our tree. It was beautiful but just such hard work.the boys helped as much as they could......when i allowed them...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So the next year my son decided to buy me a tree that just plugs in 🤣🤣🤣🤣i have to admit, i loved it 💖💖💖 he is gorgeous, he didnt want me getting exhausted 💖💖💖

So i will send a photo of my last decorated tree and the new one the next Christmas. Bit difference in work load of decorating 🤣🤣

I hope everyone has a wonderful christmas and hopefully i will have plenty of time from now on to join into the lovely conversations on LBWC.

    Love Margy 💖🎅💖🎅💖🎅💖🎅

    Last fully decorated tree🎅🎅🎅

My No decoration required tree 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My slightly decorated tree this year in new home 🤣🤣🤣

Lots more presents under it now. I have also beautiful english ornaments this year, sent from a beautiful friend...lou💖💖💖💖

Well everyone, a very merry christmas to you all. It is wonderful to be apart of the LBW family💖💖💖💖

    Love Margy 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅

  • BrightstarBrightstar Posts: 259 ✭✭✭

Your tree might be slightly decorated but it still looks really lovely. At least you won't have the boring task of having to box them all up after Christmas!

A very happy Christmas to you as well and hope the new year brings you lots of joy.

    Hi julie,

Yes that is another reason i love my tree. Unglug, Fold up branches and pop back in box..😁😁

I hope you have a brilliant christmas and new year.

Have you been contacted for your appointment yet, i hope so,💖💖

That will be a great present 💖💖💖💖

Hi Margy . Yes I have finally got a date to see my new consultant. I see him on the the 30th. Fingers crossed that I can be operated on in Jan/Feb. Bearing in mind I was diagnosed the end of September, I think I have waited long enough!

I have a feeling it may be a tough 2020 but I have all you lovely people to help me through it.

    🤗 Julie 😘

  • AnnebAnneb Posts: 171 ✭✭✭

Wow Julie that is wonderful to hear. So hope you get in quickly.

Honestly the first year went so quickly for me. It seemed to be a turntable of treatment, bed, doctors, bed, specialists, bed, oncologists, bed., tests , results ....lol....lots of bed. 😅😅😅😅

I just fell into bed early every night or fell asleep on the couch and my husband would put me to bed 🤣🤣🤣

Next thing i knew it was the next Christmas 💖💖💖💖

Most of the first year is a bit of a blur now, thank heavens. I do remember that my husband and son and myself just took one day at a time and concentrated on my recovery 💖

My surgeon and oncologist also said to eat and drink whatever i felt like...lol...a real pain to get the ok to have whatever you want and dont feel like anything 🤣🤣🤣

Yes you will have all the LBWC family behind you 💖

    Love Margy 💖💖💖

  • BrightstarBrightstar Posts: 259 ✭✭✭

Its been a bit of a blur since my diagnosis to be honest. I still can't quite believe it.

I think you have to take each step at a time, otherwise you just get overwhelmed.

I am certainly going to make sure I have a jolly good Christmas!🎄🍾🍷🍸🍹🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

I will be raising a glass to yourself and all the other wonderful people I have got to know through this forum.

    Love Julie ❤️😘

    Hi Margy

I think of of you every time I see the awful devastation caused by the fires in Australia. They must have ruined so many people's Christmas and then there are all those koalas and other animals who have been caught up in it all.

It is a relief to know that you, Peter and Beau are all safe and that you have sold your old house. We have not been too worried about ours not selling just yet and we have made the most of our last year in our lovely Island. Neither of us really wants to move but we feel that it is the right thing to do. It will be fun being around Mary's wonderful family and I also know. know that she will be safe in the years to come.

I love your trees and I think I will try to track down one of those LED ones for us next year. You certainly seem to have a lot of pressies to open on Christmas Day.

    Hi Julie

I am pleased to hear that you have a date to see your consultant. You will be wanting to get on with your op and I hope you have and early date. Sometimes, the waiting and not knowing is the worst part and I am sure that you will make sure that you have a great Christmas.

    Hi Lou

I hope that you are feeling a bit better now and are coping with those early mornings. Soon be time to enjoy Christmas Day with Mark and the girls.

Tomorrow is the third anniversary of being told I had cancer. I think Mary and I already knew, but it was still a shock especially as we decided not to tell our families before Christmas, so we had to try to be as jolly as possible. Funny how you get used to it and how it changes your life -and not always for the worst. Finding new friends like yourselves and lots of other people in this community is special and I will be raising several glasses to you all.Hic.

    Hi Rob, Lou and Julie

Yes even though we are used to our weather condition it is still horrid and stressful. And the fire bugs that start a lot of the fires are put away when caught. We just never believe that there are people that actually do this but they are out there.

Yes Julie, dont worry about the blurred existence...lol....it is amazing what our brain does to protect us from stress. Yes i was the first member of my family and our extended families to get any sort of cancer. Just not in our family genes. Ofcourse i had to break the cycle didnt I 🤣🤣🤣🤣 so no one could , including myself, believe that i had it. It is a weird feeling isnt it. Cant explain to anyone who hasnt had it. 💖💖 when you are told face to face.

Oh Rob, so hard not saying anything before christmas about your diagnosis 💖

Then there is me...lol.... i told anyone and everyone 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wanted to make sure that if it was going to be my last Christmas that i would get a heap of PRESENTS 🤣🤣🤣🤣i am very naughty but it worked 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it was so cool...lol.....i recieved heaps...

Well better go my lovelies as have to go to work😲😲😲😲 last day and then 10 days off...woo hoo...

    Love to you all

    Talk soon

    Love Margy 💖💖💖💖💖

    @RobertA @Anneb @Brightstar @Lesley @Blanka_C

Good morning, good morning! Happy Christmas Eve, Eve!! 😄

Just dropped H at work, it is mayhem down there! Queueing up already to get in the shop, lol, been there, done that! Not anymore! She comes home with very funny stories of customer's behaviour!!

Wrapping done!! Yay!! Sat with coffee, Charlie curled up in my lap, looking at a clear floor. Got to decorate our cake now, just thinking about the design, although at this late stage it will probably be anything goes! I must start earlier next year!! Do you think January is too soon??😂

Bless you Rob, a poignant day for you, I know the memories all come flooding back remembering those initial days, how life changed in a moment. But how fantastic that we have met here, and you have made friends and making a difference to those around you!

Margy, I know you are at work now, I love both your trees, and I can just imagine you with all those presents, ripping them open like a child hahaha 😂😂. And hey, there has to be a silver lining right??!! 😂😂

10 days off?? Loads of time to get on a plane and visit me!!! Come on!! You know you want to..!! 😂😂😂, Only joking....10 days isn't long enough! But I'll take it😄. One day.... definitely! Us to you!

Julie, I am so glad you joined us, you are right in taking it one step, one day at a time. It is so hard to stop our minds from going into overdrive and tormenting us. But you know we are right here with you too, absolutely enjoy Christmas. I think your Christmas decorations have an air of serenity and peace about them. Do you get Alfie a present too? We get Charlie and Lola new catnip toys, except we can't put them under the tree because they sniff them out. Or cuddly toys. One year Charlie sniffed out a cuddly toy for Phoebe, he completely ripped all the wrapping off and then proceeded to chew and 'kill' it. Lol! He has always had a thing for them 😄😄.

    Chat later I am sure!

    @Sunshinedaff @RobertA @Lesley @SueEvaM @Anneb @Blanka_C

Hi All. Well it's absolutely bonkers in the shops at the moment. I was at my local Marks&Spencers for 8.00. I thought I will get there early and avoid the crowds! How silly of me! 😂 I only wanted their sherry trifle and veg! 😂

Oh Margy, you made me laugh saying that you told everyone about your cancer. I am the opposite, only a few close friends know. I don't want people giving me that look and writing me off! But I am now thinking I may have missed out on presents! 😂 😂 😂

Rob, it must have been very hard putting on a brave front with your family around you. I would have been fine until I got a few drinks down me, then I would have caved in! You are still here 3 years on to tell the tale, and that is the main thing. You are an inspiration to a lot of people on this forum and I for one, look forward to hearing from you!😊

Lou, I love your socks and slippers. Hope you get festive pj's to go with them! 😊 Hope your cold clears up very soon. You need to get some hot toddy's down you! Any excuse to drink alcohol is a bonus in my books! 😂 😂

Alfie does get treats for Christmas, but I don't bother to wrap them anymore, as he is totally uninterested. All of my other rabbits have loved playing with the wrapping paper and used to get really excited. Alfie....zilch! He just looks at them and hops away! I bought him a cuddly toy one year and he threw it across the room and refused to have anything to do with it. So it's just nibbles for him now.

Well it's just for me to say, Happy Christmas to you all, eat, drink & drink & drink 😂 😂 and be very merry. I hope you are all spoilt rotten. I will definitely be raising a glass to you all.

    Love Julie ❤️❤️❤️

    Hello everyone

Hey Margy, I never thought of going for the sympathy vote. I remember my next birthday though. Someone got me '1000 things to do before you die.' 🤣😂🙄. Think I've done seventeen of them so far so I need to get on with it.

Haha Lou. Do you ever rest? I expect Charlie is pleased to grab the opportunity to spend some quality time with you.

I absolutely agree, meeting everyone here has been the unexpected bonus and I love being the thorn amongst all the roses. One of the most amazing things about the group is the courage and sense of humour of the members and the common bond we share whatever cancer we have.

Hey Julie. I actually made a bit of a prat of myself when the consultant gave me the bad news. I said 'Can you get rid of it?' He said 'No' and I replied 'Well, I've had a good innings'. I tell people that Mary said 'Can't you even stop talking about cricket at a time like this' but she didn't say it until later. It probably sounds a bit silly, but we still laugh about it.

Well, nearly there. Have a wonderful Christmas everybody.
