Portocath

Hi - I completed chemo 2 months ago, my portocath remains in place . A friend reports hers is being flushed every 4 weeks. Is there a reason for this and should I expect the same?

    Hi @Jools,

Welcome to the Community! I think this might be a question for Liz, our Oncology Nurse. @LizzyB73, is this something you can help with?

@Jools, I have tagged Liz in this discussion, she will get back to you soon.

In the meantime, how are you coping with the lockdown? I hope you're staying safe.

    Hi

Thanks for getting in touch and I hope you are coping okay at this difficult time

In short, yes your portacath should be flushed every 4 weeks while it is not being used but also if there is not need for you to have it in place still, may be good to ask if you can have it removed totally

    Best wishes

    Liz
