Soon to start chemo any extra precautions needed

Mel127Mel127 Posts: 1

I have just been diagnosed with Bowel cancer for second time in 4.5 years, stage 3 & cancerous lymph nodes, almost same diagnosis as first time I had it, then I had a right side hemoplectomy . This operation I’ve had to have a illeostomy on left upper side. It’s 3 weeks ago & coping ok with it & feel ok also, just tired.

i have got my appointment in 2weeks at cancer centre about the chemo I’ll be starting, obviously I’m apprehensive as I’ve done it before, but now with the corona virus I’m really concerned about contracting it while my immune system is low due to the chemotherapy, I’m usually a strong person & cope with things as they come but this I'm really worried about.

    Hi Mel,

Welcome to the community, I am so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis for a second time, I do hope you are recovering well from the operation. I can understand your trepidation at having to undergo chemo again especially with the coronavirus spreading. I am sure your oncologist and chemo unit team will be taking every measure possible and will advise you accordingly about what specifically you can do, or need to do to protect yourself as much as possible from contracting the virus.

I hope you and your family around you can stay clear of the virus, it is a difficult time, I understand.

There are many here who have been diagnosed with bowel cancer, at various stages of treatment and diagnosis, I hope you will find it supportive. Everyone is very friendly, please feel free to come and chat at any time.
